Well I did get some questions about how the current portal plugin (and menu) acts with the new Kakumei themes. Well you don't have to change anything, except to add a few lines into the Kakumei template (see readme file). Note that you only have to do this in the basic Kakumei template file (header.php and style.css). No changes are needed for the Blue version of Kakumei. It will automaticly adapt the menu when you choose the blue one!

To demostrate, I have added the theme switcher plugin by _ck_, so you can switch between the green and blue Kakumei theme and see how it adapts.

In the near future I'll add some more skins. I am thinking to re-make/update the Aardvark theme so it uses the new gravatar option and other new functions bbPress has added over time. When this theme comes available, I'll add a theme's page to the site where you can see and download the theme you want.

Hi,

So it's 4 months since I've done anything with this plugin. So what did I do? I moved to a new appartment, graduated, got a job, got a girl, got a live (lol). All this took up a lot of time. I am thinking to start up the project soon. I already converted the plugin to use jQuery (which made the plugin 90% smaller in size!).

Also bbPress has evolved a lot since last time I checked. I am very curious to what they did and how things work now. So perhaps I'm going to finish the beta and release it in the near future (if time let me, since I am very busy at the moment).

Stay tuned!

... I have a real problem. I was converting the portal plugin to use the jQuery, but with the latest release, interface isn't compatible with it anymore! I did some digging and found out that interface it self isn't going to be updated anymore either. Instead of that, they have created jQuery UI.

That's some good news, if it wasn't that buggy. They say it's gonna be the official interface like plugin for jQuery, but to be honest, I think they released it too soon. It's still beta (though they say it isn't) and isn't as great as interface was (for now).

The down site is that I can't continue to convert bbPortal to jQuery at least untill UI works properly. So I am gonna concentrate on fixing some small bugs and add new stuff that doesn't requier jQuery or the old libary I am using right now.

Stay tuned!

bbPortal 1.3 has some several bug fixes and minor code improvements:

- bbPortal now uses the bb_admin_add_submenu hook
- Topics that are marked as spam or are "deleted" will no longer show up at the portal page
- Textfields in the admin area will now return a value (if there is one) instead of leaving the fields blank
- Merged bbPortal and the bbMenu plugin. It's no longer needed to have the bbMenu plugin installed

This is also the last version I release using the prototype libary. The next version will be jQuery based and smaller in size.

You can download bbPortal 1.3 here:
http://www.bbportal.org/bb-downloads/bbportal1.3.zip

I also get a lot of questions on how to add more menutabs to the bbMenu. To be short: you can't. This feature will be supported in the next version of bbMenu.

Since I am not a bad guy (and the next release can take a while), I've written a small plugin so you can add menu tabs. It is experimental, so read the read me text before using it!

You can download it here:
http://www.bbportal.org/bb-downloads/addmenutab1.0.zip

I am back!

and give you: bbMenu 1.2. bbMenu 1.2 has some several bug fixes and minor code improvements:

- bbMenu now uses the bb_admin_add_submenu hook
- Fixed a bug that caused bbMenu to crash on some servers (thanks box87)
- Some code cleanup and optimalisations (thanks box87)
- Some template changes. If bbMenu is deactivated, the header now adapts and wont crash

Note that bbMenu 1.2 is not compatible with bbPortal 1.2 and bbPress pre 0.8

This is also the last version I release using the prototype libary. The next version will be jQuery based and smaller in size.

Well it's almost done... This weekend I'll have to pick up my final stuff and move to my new home! After that (and IF my internet connection is moved allong with me) I can do some work on the portal plugin again. I am kinda excited to work on it again :)

bbPress has also released a new version, using jQuery. That's some good news too. This will allow bbPortal to do more with less. I've got some nice ideas, but the first thing to do is to convert the current drag & drop function to jQuery. If I get this done, there will be a new release.

But first things first... like getting my stuff to the new house :)

get_bbmenu is used to get the data from the db for the menu. There is an easier way to skip this bbmenu check:

Open bbportal.php

Around line 40 find:
// Check if the bbMenu plugin is installed

From this point untill: // Show form (around line 93) you can delete/quote out the text/lines.

This should fix the menu check and you wont even have to install the bbmenu plugin anymore aswell.

NOTE: This is not tested
NOTE2: This will deactivate the menu and you should remove the lines added in the header.php aswell.

I'm currently experimenting with a fix for this error. But I have very little time at the moment. Got my job, have to move soon (so no internet for a while?) and on top of that, finish my school paper :S

Future plans:
- Fix the damn bug
- Intergrate the menu plugin, so no seperate installation needed
- use jQuery (after bbPress 1.0 is launched)
- add pages to your portal (like WP has, with reply function?)
- widgets (long term)

"If you dont realy need the menu part, but want to play/use the portal only, you can create a clean php file naming it bbmenu.php and put in a function called: get_bbmenu(). Just make sure this function does nothing at all. Upload it to your plugin directory and you can use the portal plugin. The portal plugin checks if this functions excist in order to continue, but in this stage it doesn't realy need the bbmenu plugin yet (it is usable without it). Only thing is you won't have a nice menu on your portal page then..."

This didn't work for me.

- Now using the bb_get_option API instead of creating a new database table
- Moved the plugin options in the admin area from "Content" to "Portal Management" in the main admin menubar
- bbPortal now uses the bbMenu plugin for its menu's. This plugin is added into the .zip file
- Fixed the form processing bug (thanks to Sam Bauers)

Still to do:
- Fix the hyperlink bug
- Better CSS for the left and rightbars
- Widgets
- Being able to create new pages
- Being able to create new link tabs

bbPortal 1.2 is almost done. I just need to fix a couple of small bugs and then it's ready for download. There are some significant changes in this new release. bbPortal will have it's own admin area, will use the bbMenu plugin and will be compatible with the latest bbPress version.

I proberbly update this forum/site to the latest bbPress version within a few days and then upload and release the bbPortal plugin.

Stay tuned!

Get it while it's hot!!!

Add your own menu to your bbPress forum, rename and re-order (drag & drop) the menu tabs to your liking.

New in this version:
- You can now rename the menu items by double-clicking them
- Fixed a minor $bb_table_prefix bug
- Added compatibility with the bbPortal plugin

Important:
Before installing, be sure to delete (drop) the previous
bb_menu table from you database

Known issues:
With FireFox: There are some problems when trying to edit the menu links in FF. Sometimes you can't edit the text in the textfield. Just try double clicking a text in the menu link, then double click another one and now try to edit the first one opened. If you know how to fix this issue, plz let me know

To do:
- Be able to add custom menu tabs to the menu using the admin panel
- re-write the plugin to use jQuery?? (This is used in the next bbPress version)

Download:
http://www.sourceskins.com/bbmenu1.1.zip

With this plugin released, I finally have the time to work on the bbPortal plugin again. bbMenu will be a requierd part in the next bbPortal version. More on this later!

Ow this board still uses 0.74 hence the errors

an ETA? well euuhh I am really busy you know, real work, bbmenu, lazyness, girlfriend.

You could btw install the plugin twice but rename everything adding a 2 behind it. Also in the core then you could have 2 plugins running at the same time. Kinda sloppy but it should work :)

perhaps in a very future release I will add a function to pull news from more then 1 forum...

Is there an ETA for when bbportal is ready for the latest bbpress?

I am happy to test to see if 2 instances of bbportal can be used, 1 with a subdomain.

I'd like to use it like so:

www.mpm.org.au: bbportal for 1st category
forum.mpm.org.au: bbpress
300.mpm.org.au: bbportal for 2nd category

It get's the 3 basic pages from you bbPress install (front-page/forum, statistics and the search page) and puts them in your header. In the admin area, you can drag and drop these pages in the order you like (or hide them).

With version 1.1 you will be able te rename them aswell (so you can change Forums to bbBoard or something).

bbMenu 1.0 is compatible from bbPress version 0.8

Demo (no admin) can be found here: www.sourceskins.com/bbpress

To put this into a sidebar should be quite izi to do, there is a site link in the documentation file in the .zip with some explaining of how to change the menu's appearance.

Feature bbPortal releases will have a bbMenu widget you can drag into your sidebar....

Just take a look at the portal-page.php file in the .zip or wait for the next release. It will have (hopefully) dynamic, self resizing, able to be hidden by admin(this function will have to wait for now) sidebars...
