bbPortal 1.1 released

(11 posts)
  1. bbPortal 1.1 is now available for download. Running this script for the first time will show an error message. Just ignore it. It just says there is no database table yet, but this will be created as soon as you press submit.

    Other changes:
    - Made bbPortal a plugin
    - Added an admin menu for editing the portal page (admin/content/portal)
    - Fixed a bbPress CSS bug that caused all <h1> and <h2> fontsizes to be different in every browser
    - Changed how the portal's menu is placed (original #main in the style.css is put back again)
    - Cause bbPortal is a plugin now, chances to the bb-includes/template-functions.php file are no longer needed.
You can put back the original bbPress template-functions.php file

    Happy new year!

Just trying to understand if BBportal is for me.

It can do what vbulletin/smf does with a 'news article' front page that is directly linked to the forum pages? I can choose exactly which 'forum/category' features on the front page?

If I install bbportal can I still have a wordpress blog integrated with my bbpress as well?

Does bbportal work with the latest bbpress release?

Another question - can I have 2 (or more) instances of bbportal?

    eg. www.myurl.com - bbportal

    www.myurl.com/forum - bbpress

sub.myurl.com - bbportal page that links to same forum as above, just calls posts from a different category.

  4. Hi

    Sorry for the late reply:

You can choose from the admin 1 forum/cat where you pull the (news)topics from and show it on a portal frontpage (like on this site).

If I install bbportal can I still have a wordpress blog integrated with my bbpress as well?
I think so, this plugin only pulls info from the bbpress forum, it doesn't touch any wordpress files

Does bbportal work with the latest bbpress release?
No, working on a upgrade though (bbMenu plugin takes up a lot of time now). Current version works only with pre bbpress 0.8 installs

sub.myurl.com - bbportal page that links to same forum as above, just calls posts from a different category.
Don't think so (never tested that :))

Is there an ETA for when bbportal is ready for the latest bbpress?

I am happy to test to see if 2 instances of bbportal can be used, 1 with a subdomain.

I'd like to use it like so:

    www.mpm.org.au: bbportal for 1st category
    forum.mpm.org.au: bbpress
    300.mpm.org.au: bbportal for 2nd category

also, I reset my password but when I clicked on the link from the email I got the message
"no key" leading me to think the reset was unsuccessful (but it wasn't) hence the 'maker2' sign up.

  7. Ow this board still uses 0.74 hence the errors

an ETA? well euuhh I am really busy you know, real work, bbmenu, lazyness, girlfriend.

You could btw install the plugin twice but rename everything adding a 2 behind it. Also in the core then you could have 2 plugins running at the same time. Kinda sloppy but it should work :)

perhaps in a very future release I will add a function to pull news from more then 1 forum...

Installed it on a fresh forum

    http://www.mpm.org.au/mike/bb/

    This is my current error:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxxx/mike/bb/bb-templates/portal-page.php on line 33

I changed the path in portal.php to my themes directory in my-templates but still get the same error.

  11. Yeah there is more to change to make it work. I already started on the next version, kinda re-writing the whole plugin :D (I am also learing along the way)

Just have to have some patience :)
